Barr. Lawal Pedro SAN – A Member, Former Solicitor General, and Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Justice. Currently engaged in private practice in Criminal Defence and Civil matters.
The Senior Partner of the firm of Lawal Pedro & Co SAN, a seasoned legal practitioner with a wealth of experience in Civil, Commercial, and Criminal Law. He obtained his law degree from Ahmadu Bello University with a Second Class Upper in 1985 and was called to the Bar in 1986 after completing the requisite course of studies at the Nigerian Law School. He had a brief experience in private practice for about 2 years before joining the public service.
He served in various capacities within the public sector, from the Directorate of Legal l Services to the Directorate of Public Prosecution, through to the office of Administrator General of & Public Trustee, Directorate of Civil Litigation and Advisory Services. He became Directorate of Civil Litigation in the Lagos State Ministry of Justice in 2006-2008.
It is in recognition of his invaluable contribution to the development of the reform of the Civil Justice system during his tenure and his tenacity, competence, and in-depth knowledge of the law and its practice that he was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2008. He was appointed the Solicitor General & Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice in 2008. He also served as the Head of the Prosecution of High Profile Criminal Cases in Lagos State between 2008-2015. In this capacity, he prosecuted diligently numerous high-profile cases up to the Supreme Court. Some of the interesting cases he prosecuted are State vs. Major Almustapha & ors, State vs. Rev. King, and many others.
Mr. Pedro is a Fellow Chartered of Arbitrators in Nigeria and a Certified Mediator (CEDR).
He has published various books on law including:
